Best 2020 read

2020 was the year I got back into reading consistently and this was the book that got me going. I got my hands on it in April and from the moment I opened it I couldn’t put it down. Read the whole thing in one day and it left me wanting more. And the book is none other than Stephen King’s On Writing. ( Amazon Link – not affiliated)

In March of 2020, I (like most others) suddenly found myself with a lot of time on my hands and decided I should get back into writing. I have always enjoyed writing but never stuck with it consistently and I have a collection of notebooks filled with unfinished stories and story ideas. So I bought myself this book as a birthday present both to cheer myself up on my Lockdown birthday and to possibly inspire me to write great things. Inspire me it did, we’ll see about greatness in due time providing I stick with it. But nontheless, a surprisingly entertaining read with some great writing advice.

Blurb: “Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near fatal accident in 1999 – and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery”.

Highly recommend, especially if you also like to write.
